Chattanooga, Tenn. - UCLA junior Chris Lam won two matches Thursday to advance to the round of 16 at the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships.
Lam started the day by upsetting 15th-seeded Richard Barker of Rice, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round. In the afternoon session, Lam dispatched of Texas A&M's Ante Matijevic, 7-6(4), 6-3. He moves on to face Auburn's Gabor Zol Pelvo in Friday's round of 16.
Bruin senior Tobias Clemens didn't fare as well Thursday, winning his opening round match before falling in the second round. Clemens, seeded third, defeated North Carolina's Nicholas Monroe, 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round. He then lost to Michigan's Michael Rubin, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1.
