LOS ANGELES - The 2000 USA Track & Field Trials will continue through the weekend and conclude Sunday at Hornet Stadium on the campus of CS Sacramento.
For the next three days, several UCLA performers will be looking to make the U. S. Olympic team. They include - Tracy O'Hara, Erica Hoernig and Heather Sickler in the women's pole vault, John Godina, Luke Sullivan, David Dumble in the men's discus and Gail Devers in the women's 100m hurdles.
On Thursday, UCLA had several athletes compete. They were - Deana Simmons in the triple jump (43-8 1/2, advances to Saturday's final), Dawn Dumble (55-7 3/4), Christina Tolson (54-1 3/4) and Chaniqua Ross (50-1 1/4) in the women's shot put (all advancing to today's final), Jess Strutzel in the men's 800m (1:46.70, advancing to today's semis), Josh Johnson, who placed eighth (226-7) in the men's javelin final and Avery Anderson, who is in fourth place (4269) after the first day of the decathlon (concludes today).
There are currently six Bruins on the U. S. Olympic T & F team. The Summer Olympic Games will take place in Sydney, Australia from Sept. 22-Oct. 1.
