No. 3 Bruins Down LMU, 5-0

Oct. 29, 2003

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Bruin forward Iris Mora scored twice in the first 10 minutes, setting the tone for third-ranked UCLA's 5-0 decision over Loyola Marymount at Drake Stadium Wednesday. With the victory, UCLA improves to 13-1-3 overall, while LMU drops to 7-8-3.

Mora's two strikes on the evening came just four minutes apart as she scored at the 4:02 and 8:01 marks of the first half. Her first goal was an unassisted shot inside the box and her second came off a cross from Bruin defender Amy Fazio.

Junior defender Kendal Billingsley scored UCLA's third goal on an assist from Lindsay Greco. Greco hit a hard shot that was deflected off an LMU defender to Billingsley, who hit in the rebound from about 10 yards out.

The Bruins would score once more before the half as Sarah-Gayle Swanson managed to head in a corner kick sent in by freshman Stephanie Kron. With that goal, Swanson moved into a tie for third place at UCLA in career goals with 33. Former Bruin All-American Tracey Milburn also had 33 from 1998-00.

Freshman forward Bristyn Davis capped the scoring for UCLA in the 48th minute of the match when she put in a right-footed shot from about eight yards out. Assisting on that goal were Mora and Nandi Pryce. After not tallying a single assist during her freshman year in 2002, Mora tied the UCLA single-season record for assists on Wednesday with her 11th of the season.

With a 4-0 lead at the half, the Bruins were able to get some playing time for goalkeeper Emily Zaplatosch, who recently joined the team due to injuries by Sarah Lombardo and Jaclyn Harwood. Zaplatosch, the starting catcher on the UCLA softball team and former ODP player in Arizona, played 35 minutes of scoreless soccer in the second half before being relieved by starting goalkeeper Arianna Criscione.

UCLA will host its final home match of the regular season this Sunday when the Bruins take on cross-town rival USC in a 1:00 p.m. match at Drake Stadium.
