UCLA (18-14, 3-3) dropped the final game of its three game series to Arizona (16-14-1, 5-4), 9-5, in front of 738 fans at Kindall Field at Sancet Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats struck early, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first frame on four hits.
The Bruins would get on the scoreboard in the second inning when a one-out single from Brett McMillan started the rally. He would move to second on a single from Preston Griffin and would later score on a single by Chris Denove.
In the third frame, UCLA posted two more runs to cut the Arizona lead to one run. A lead-off single from Mike Svetlic would turn into a Bruin run when he scored on a double from Matt Thayer. Thayer would then come around to score on an error by the right-fielder. After the top of the third, UCLA trailed 4-3.
Arizona added another run in the bottom of the third as a bad throw on a base hit allowed Jason Donald to come around to score. In the bottom of the sixth, two more Wildcat runs would score to give Arizona a 7-3 lead.
The Wildcats added two to their tally in the bottom of the seventh to increase their lead to 9-3.
The Bruins would post two runs in the top of the ninth inning as Brandon Averill went to second on an error to start the inning. A single from Chris Denove would move Averill to third before he scored on a wild pitch. Denove would later move to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on a single from Chad Concolino.
UCLA will return to Jackie Robinson Stadium on Tuesday when it hosts Long Beach State in a midweek match-up. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
