Bay Area Schools in Town This Week . . .
The No. 11-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (12-4; 5-1 Pac-10) could win a share of the 2005 Pac-10 title with a pair of wins over the Bay Area schools this weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins begin the weekend by hosting No. 20 Cal (12-5; 2-3 Pac-10) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. UCLA leads the all-time series 29-22, posting a 6-1 win in Berkeley back on Feb. 26. The Bruins' weekend gets significantly tougher on Saturday, with top-ranked and undefeated Stanford (17-0; 4-0 Pac-10) visiting for a Noon showdown. The Cardinal already recorded a 6-1 victory over the Bruins on Feb. 25 in Stanford. Live stats for this weekend's matches can be accessed by clicking here.

Race for the Pac-10 Title . . .
Both USC (6-0) and Stanford (4-0) are in the driver's seat for this year's Pac-10 title. With only two conference matches remaining, the Women of Troy could win the title outright with a pair of victories this weekend. However, if Stanford beats USC on Friday and the Bruins (5-1) are able to defeat the Cardinal on Saturday, there could be a three-way tie for the conference championship, as each team could end the year with one loss in the Pac-10. Unlike USC and UCLA, which round out conference play this weekend, the Cardinal still have two Pac-10 matches remaining in Cal and Washington (makeup if necessary).

Bruins Continue Dominance Over Ducks . . .
UCLA had just one match last week, posting a 5-2 road victory over No. 22 Oregon to improve to 9-0 all-time against the Ducks. After sweeping all three doubles matches, the Bruins managed to win four of six singles matches to come away with the win. Freshman Riza Zalameda captured the biggest win of the day, defeating Oregon's only ranked singles player, No. 73 Dominika Dieskova, in straight sets.

UCLA Moves Up to No. 11 . . .
UCLA moved up two spaces from No. 13 to No. 11 in this week's ITA National Team Rankings released on Tuesday. Individual rankings were also released this week, and the Bruins feature two top-25 singles players in No. 23 Riza Zalameda and No. 25 Daniela Bercek. Laura Gordon is also ranked, checking in at No. 98. In doubles, Bercek and Zalameda are ranked No. 2 nationally behind only Northwestern's Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier. New team rankings will be released again next Tuesday. Individual rankings aren't due out again until April 19.

Doubles Play . . .
UCLA has been dominant in doubles play this season, winning the doubles point in 14 of 16 matches. Only Clemson and USC have been able to take the point against the Bruins. UCLA is 12-2 when it wins the doubles point and 1-1 when it loses it. Daniela Bercek and Riza Zalameda, who have been ranked in the top-5 for most of the season and check in this week at No. 2, own the best record on the team at 25-4.

Individually Speaking . . .
With 23 singles victories, freshman Riza Zalameda leads the Bruins in wins this season. Zalameda is 23-8 overall and 12-4 in dual-match play. Fellow freshman Tracy Lin has the next highest win total, with a 19-11 overall record. Alex McGoodwin (17-13), Laura Gordon (16-8) and Elizabeth Lumpkin (16-8) round out the group.

Head Coach Stella Sampras Webster . . .
Stella Sampras Webster is in her ninth season as head coach at UCLA, owning an overall record of 145-81 (.642). In her eight seasons in Westwood, the Bruins have finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships seven times, including a trip to the finals in 2004. As a player, Sampras Webster was a four-time All-American at UCLA from 1988-91, capturing the NCAA Doubles title (w/Allyson Cooper) as a freshman in 1988.
