Head women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier announced today that UCLA has granted sophomore Nicole Kaczmarski's request to seek a transfer from the school. Kaczmarski faxed to UCLA her request to transfer on Friday, December 8. Earlier today, UCLA granted Kaczmarski's request to send a letter of release on her behalf to Duke, Florida, Georgia and Virginia.
On Oct. 17, UCLA had granted Kaczmarski permission to take the Fall Quarter off for personal reasons. The 5-10 guard started all 29 games during the 1999-2000 season and averaged 11.7 points. She attended summer school classes at UCLA, which ended on September 15. Shortly thereafter, she returned to New York in order to seek additional medical care for a foot she had injured (plantar fascia strain) during the summer at the USA Jones Cup trials in Colorado. Kaczmarski has remained at home in New York and has been in regular contact with coach Olivier.
"I have been in regular contact with Nicole since October," said coach Olivier. "In our conversations and as recently as last Thursday, Nicole gave every indication that she would be returning to UCLA. I am not sure what caused her to change her mind, but we feel it is now in our program's best interest to release her and move on."
