Final Stats

WESTWOOD - The fifth-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Cal on Friday night at Pauley Pavilion as senior setter Erika Selsor became the new Pac-10 career assist record holder. Game scores were 31-29, 30-12, 30-21. UCLA improves to 10-3 (5-2 Pac-10) with the win, while Cal falls to 5-8 (1-6 Pac-10).

Selsor recorded the 5,422nd assist of her Bruin career early in game one of the match, surpassing the career total of 5,421 amassed by Holly McPeak, who played for Cal and UCLA from 1987-90. Selsor currently has 5,466 career kills and needs 221 assists to tie Ann Boyer for the UCLA career record.

Cal sprinted out to an early 9-4 lead in the first game of the match, but the Bruins would scrap back to within one point at 10-9 behind a four-point service run by freshman defensive specialist Chrissie Zartman. UCLa would tie the score at 13-13 but would not take a lead until a kill by Ashley Bowles tied the score at 29-29 and a Kristee Porter solo block gave the Bruins a 30-29 lead. Porter would put the game away with her seventh kill of the match on the ensuing rally.

In game two, the roles were reversed a bit, as the two teams traded points to the 4-4 mark, until redshirt freshman Natalie Ray entered the game as a defensive specialist and served six straight points to give the Bruins an 11-4 lead. Ray, who saw her first match action as a Bruin one week ago serving match point against Washington State, finished the night with six digs, her first stats as a Bruin.

UCLA extended its lead to 24-10 and closed out the game at 30-12, having hit .571 as a team compared to .065 for the Golden Bears. Game three also started out close, with UCLA holding a slim10-9 lead before Ashley Bowles served seven straight points to give the Bruins a 19-9 lead en route to the 30-21 game win.

Kristee Porter led all players with 20 kills and was joined in double figures by Lauren Fendrick with 14 and Ashley Bowles with 13. All three players had outstanding attack percentages for the evening, as Bowles and Porter both finished at .500 while Fendrick hit .481.

UCLA returns to action next Friday, Oct. 19, as the Bruins play host to No. 3 USC in a Lexus Gauntlet match. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm at Pauley Pavilion.
