Bruins 10th after First Round at Cleveland Classic

The UCLA men's golf team is in 10th place after the first round of the Cleveland Classic at North Ranch Country Club, hosted by USC.

The Bruins posted a first-round team score of 299, 15-over par, and trail ninth place New Mexico and Pepperdine by a stroke.

California posted a first-round score of 288, four-over par, and is leading by two shots over three teams tied for second.

Individually for the Bruins, sophomore John Merrick is tied for fourth place at even par 71. Freshman John Poucher and senior Parker McLachlin are tied for 27th place at four-over par 75. Freshman Breene Murphy shot a 76 and is tied for 58th place and sophomore Roy Moon is tied for 67th after posting an 80.

California's Walter Chun posted a four-under par score of 67 and is the leader in the clubhouse. Brandon Hamden of Oregon is second at 68.

Second round action will be completed at dusk Monday and the final round will commence Tuesday.
