Field Events at NAU
Junior Scott Wiegand led the Bruins by winning the shot put, with an effort of 64-7.75, a personal indoor best, NCAA automatic qualifier and No. 9 on the Bruin all-time chart. It's the second competition in a row that Wiegand has set a personal best in the shot put. On Feb. 2 at the Washington Invite in Seattle, WA, Wiegand recorded a then-personal best and NCAA automatic mark of 63-7.
Also in the throws, senior co-captain Scott Moser was second in the shot put (61-5, season-best, NCAA provisional) and won the 35lb. weight throw (68-2.25, personal-best, NCAA provisional).
Also in field, UCLA was led by junior Kevin Weaver, who won the high jump (6-11). Other top performances were turned in by - in the pole vault, senior C. J. Bell (third overall, 16-8.75, personal-best) and junior Jared Drake (fourth overall, 16-2.75, season-best) were the top finishing collegians and in the jumps, sophomore Juaune Armon was third in the long jump (24-6.25, season-best) and second in the triple jump (48-6.75). The Bruins were led by a three-through-five finish (highest placing collegians) in the 400m. Sophomore Denye Versher placed third (47.56, season-best), junior Kyle Erickson was fourth (47.86, season-best) and sophomore Rodney Diggs was fourth (48.05, season-best).
Also on the track, the Bruins were paced by - senior co-captain Michael Lipscomb, second in the 200m (21.22, season-best, NCAA provisional) and ran a 6.89Q (season-best) in the 60m, junior John McCauley, seventh in the 200m (21.93, season-best) and a 6.99Q in the 60m and sophomore Chuckie Ryan was fifth (8.22, 8.07Q, season-best) in the 60m hurdles.
UCLA's 4 X 400m relay placed second 3:12.15 (season-best).
UCLA's next competition is the MPSF Indoor Championships, Feb. 22-23 at Northern Arizona University.
