Feb. 12, 2003
In their 2003 MPSF opener the No. 2 Bruin women's water polo team jumped out to an early first quarter lead against the UC Irvine Anteaters and never looked back. After outscoring Irvine 6-1 in the opening period the Bruins would continue their season long string of impressive defensive performances by shutting out the Anteaters for the rest of the game. The Bruins eighteen goals marks the second time the Bruins have scored ten or more goals this season (the other game was a 19-0 victory vs. UC Santa Cruz). In the Bruins five games this season they have not allowed more than four goals.
Natalie Golda notched her second hat trick of the season, with Seniors Jessica Lopez and Maureen Flanagan also scoring three goals. Kelly Rulon, Katherine Belden and Katie Flanagan each scored twice. Kristina Kunkel, Kristyn Pulver and Ashley Stachowski each found the back of the net once.
The Bruins improved to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in the MPSF. The team will have the weekend off, before having their first home game of the year at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center vs. No. 3 USC on Friday, February 21st at 3:00 PM.
