The No. 11 UCLA women's track and field team will head to Seattle, WA Friday, Feb. 25-Saturday, Feb. 26 for the 2005 MPSF Indoor Championships. Last season the Bruin women placed second to Stanford (who won for the third consecutive season), and will again be in the hunt for the MPSF Indoor title.
Several Bruins will compete for an MPSF title as several rank in the top-10 in the indoor conference: junior Dawn Harper in the 60m hurdles (1st, 8.15); freshman Alison Costello in the mile (8th, 4:54.92) and 3000m (3rd, 9:27.61); junior Jacqueline Nguyen (4th, 13-4.50) and freshman Megan Jamerson (10th, 12-4) in the pole vault; senior Caroline Sommers (3rd, 5-7.75), and freshmen Allison Miller (4th, 5-7.75) and Kathleen Mahony (10th, 5-5.75) in the high jump; senior Dana Bethel in the long jump (6th, 18-10.50); senior Candice Baucham (2nd, 43-10.50) in the triple jump; junior Briona Reynolds in the shot put (3rd, 50-9.50), and senior Lara Saye in the shot put (4th, 50-0.50) and weight throw (1st, 61-7.50). The DMR team ranks second in MPSF (12:07.7h).
Three Bruin women continue to rank in the top-20 in the nation as Harper ranks fourth in the 60m hurdles, Baucham ranks fourth in the triple jump, and Nguyen ranks 11th in the pole vault.
This weekend will mark the return of the 2004 NCAA Outdoor pole vault champion and record holder (15-0), junior Chelsea Johnson. Johnson suffered a hamstring strain earlier this year and has been in rehab with the goal of returning to competition at the MPSF Championships.
