Three Bruins Selected To NSCAA All-Far West Men's Soccer Team
By: UCLA Athletics

Nov. 28, 2001

Sweet Sixteen participant UCLA placed three players on the NSCAA All-Far West men's soccer team.

Sophomore defender Alex Yi (Easton, Md.) earned first-team acclaim. Sophomore defender Nelson Akwari (Houston, Texas) was a second-team selection, and junior forward Tim Pierce (Dana Point, Calif.) earned third-team honors.

Yi and Akwari have led UCLA's defense to nine shutouts this year, including five in the last seven games. Pierce has been UCLA's offensive leader, scoring 10 goals and 22 points, including three goals in the first two rounds of the playoffs. All three players are first-time honorees.

The Bruins have now had at least one player earn NSCAA All-Far West honors in every year since 1969.
