The 10th-seeded UCLA men's golf team split its first two matches at the Collegiate Match Play Championships hosted by the men's and women's collegiate golf associations at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills. FL.
UCLA fell 5-0 to seventh-seeded Florida, but rebounded with a 3.5-1.5 victory against defending NCAA champion Cal.
In the match against Cal, the Bruins won three of four matches and tied another following a loss at the No.1 spot. Freshmen Daniel Im and Kevin Chappell and sophomore Chris Heintz each defeated their opponents and sophomore Peter Campbell halved at No. 4 to secure the victory.
Im defeated Kyle Dowden 3 and 2, Chappell defeated Jeff Hood by the same score and Heintz beat Eric West, 3 and 1. Campbell halved his match against Frederick Svanberg.
