Corona del Mar, Calif. - The UCLA men's water polo team got two strong victories during the first day of the Southern California Tournament, held at Corona del Mar High School. The Bruins opened the day with a 13-6 victory over Long Beach State and finished the day with a 10-4 win over UC Santa Barbara. With the two wins, the Bruins improve to 3-1 on the season and will play in the tournament semifinals on Sunday at 11:20 a.m.
Senior Adam Wright scored four goals for UCLA in the 13-6 victory over Long Beach State. Sophomore Matt Flesher and senior Andy Bailey added three goals apiece. Dave Parker, Brian Brown and Ryan Brown rounded out the scoring for the Bruins. Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Brooks made a career-high 12 saves in the win.
In the second game of the day, Wright, Parker and Brian Brown led the Bruins in scoring with two tallies each. Flesher, Ryan Brown, Albert Garcia and Dan Yeilding also scored for UCLA. Brooks made two saves in goal.
The Bruins will play in the first championship semifinal on Sunday morning at 11:20 a.m. If they win, they will play in the championship game at 5:50 p.m. The third place game will take place at 4:45 p.m.
