WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Elaine Zivich of Lompoc, Calif. (Cabrillo HS) has been named the first MPSF Player of the Week for the 2000 women's water polo season.
Zivich received Tournament MVP honors at the Third Annual Rainbow Wahine Challenge after helping the third-ranked Bruins capture first place at the Challenge this past week. The 5-11 attacker led all teams in scoring, totaling eight goals in three games.
On Friday, Feb. 4, she led the Bruins with a hat trick in the 16-4 win over No. 12 UC San Diego. The following day, she matched her hat trick in UCLA's 16-4 defeat over No. 6 UC Santa Barbara. In UCLA's final game of the Challenge, Zivich came up strong again, recording two goals in the 12-2 victory against No. 8 Hawai'i.
Zivich, UCLA's leading scorer in 1999 with 64 goals, was a first-team All-American and All-MPSF selection last season.
