The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team won its first team title of the 2005 spring season Tuesday. The Bruins won the Arizona Wildcat Invitational by one stroke over host Arizona at the Arizona National Golf Course in Sabino Springs, AZ.
The victory was UCLA's third at this event. Previous titles came in 1985 and 1993.
The Bruins held off the host Wildcats by one stroke. Their final round score of 291 gave them a 54-hole total of 864 (+12). Arizona finished with a three-round total of 865, posting a score of 287 (+3) on Tuesday. Tennessee placed third at 876, followed by Arizona State at 877 and Pepperdine at 883.
Individually, UCLA senior Charlotte Mayorkas placed second at 210 (-3) after posting a one-over par score of 72 in the final round. ASU's Louise Stahle took medalist honors at 209 (-4), despite carding a 73 (+2) on Tuesday.
Sophomore Hannah Jun tied for eighth place at 217 (+4) and senior Melissa Martin was alone in 11th place at 218 (+5). Freshman Amie Cochran tied for 15th place at 221 (+8) and junior Susie Mathews tied for 24th at 224 (+11).
Freshman Vanessa Brockett, playing as an individual, tied for 20th place at 223 (+10). Brockett posted a score of 74 (+3) in the final round.
The Bruins' next event will be the San Jose State Invitational at Corral del Tierra in Carmel on Mar. 1 & 2.
