Red-shirt junior Travis Johnson won the Southern California Public Links Amateur Championship Sunday, firing a one-under par 143 over the weekend at Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont.
That score, combined with Johnson's two rounds of three-under par at Wilson Golf Course in Los Angeles gave the 21-year old Bellflower native the title. At Wilson, Johnson posted scores of 70-71-141 for a 72-hole total of four-under par 284. He defeated John Cook of Shandin Hills by three shots.
Johnson is sitting out his junior season at UCLA, but has managed to play in a number of amateur tournaments with solid results. In March, he finished third at the Lompoc City Championships held at LaPurisima Golf Course, and in January he tied for 18th at the Greater International Amateur Championship in New South Wales, Australia.
