LOS ANGELES - Headlined by first-team selections Jill Oakes, Danesha Adams and Valerie Henderson, the Pac-10 champion UCLA women's soccer team (17-1-2) had a total of eight players named to Pac-10 All-Conference Teams Thursday. The Bruins led all schools with three players named to the first team.
Senior forward Iris Mora was named to the second team, while Christina DiMartino, Kara Lang and Mary Castelanelli earned honorable mention acclaim. DiMartino, Lang and Erin Hardy were all named to the first-ever Pac-10 All-Freshman Team.
First-team selections Oakes, Adams and Henderson all enjoyed outstanding seasons, helping the Bruins earn a No. 1 regional seed in this week's NCAA Championships. Oakes, a four-time All-Pac-10 selection, is the leader on a Bruin defense that has surrendered just eight goals in 20 matches, registering 13 shutouts in the process. UCLA's 0.38 team goals against average is also No. 1 in the Pac-10 and fifth nationally. Adams leads the Bruins and ranks second in the conference with 32 points (15,g, 2a). Her eight game winning goals ranks No. 1 in the Pac-10. Henderson's 0.46 goals against average is good enough for second in the conference.
Arizona's Mallory Miller was named Pac-10 Player of the year. USC's Amy Rodriguez was named Freshman of the Year, and Cal's Kevin Boyd was named Coach of the Year.
