Final Stats

Gainesville, FL - In the last regular season tuneup before post-season action, the top-ranked UCLA gymnastics team hit 24-24 routines and scored a 198.25 to barely outpoint seventh-ranked Florida, which scored a school record 198.225. The outcome of the meet came down to the final routine of the night. Bruin sophomore Kate Richardson ended the Bruins' competition by hitting a 9.95 on beam, forcing Florida's Erinn Dooley to come up with a perfect 10 on floor to give the Gators the win. Dooley came up half a tenth short, scoring a 9.95.

The Bruins got off to an amazing start with a 49.6 on the uneven bars but still found themselves trailing after one rotation, as Florida reeled off a school record 49.65 on the vault. Freshman walk-on Savannah Evans earned a perfect 10 on vault to lead the Gators. Jamie Dantzscher and Jeanette Antolin led UCLA with a pair of 9.95s on bars.

UCLA took over the lead in rotation two, 99.275-99.075, after scoring a season-high tying 49.675 on vault. The team vault total was the second highest in school history. Christie Tedmon led off with a career-high 9.825, and Lori Winn followed with a 9.85. Freshman Ashley Peckett and senior Kristen Maloney equaleded their career-highs with back-to-back 9.95s. Richardson added a 9.925, and Antolin anchored with her fifth consecutive perfect 10, keeping her unbeaten streak on vault alive. Florida scored a solid 49.425 on bars, highlighted by a pair of 9.925s from Erinn Dooley and Kristen Stucky.

Winn and Yvonne Tousek got UCLA off to a good start in rotation three with a pair of 9.85s on floor exercise. Maloney added a 9.9, and Richardson and Antolin scored 9.925s, bringing the Bruins to a team total of 49.45 and a slight 148.725-148.6 lead over the Gators, which scored 49.525 on beam.

Under tremendous pressure, the Bruins held on to the lead in the final rotation despite Florida recording five scores of 9.9 or higher. Leadoff competitor Orley Szmuch started with a 9.9, and the scores escalated from there. However, UCLA remained calm and confident. Winn led off with a 9.825, followed by a 9.825 by Antolin and a 9.875 by Tedmon. Maloney recorded a 9.925, and Tousek and Richardson finished the set with 9.95s that sealed the win and a team beam score of 49.525.

For the first time this season, neither Antolin nor Richardson won the all-around. Dooley took first-place honors, scoring a 39.75. The Bruin duo tied for second with scores of 39.7.
