LOS ANGELES - Senior Brett Ormbsby led the Bruins with four goals on Saturday at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center as the top-ranked UCLA men's water polo team defeated Loyola Marymount by a score of 15-7.
LMU scored the first goal of the game and went out to an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter, including two goals in a one-minute stretch by Nick Oster and Endre Rex-Kiss to give the Lions their largest lead of the game. UCLA responded with three goals in the final three minutes of the quarter, however, as Brett Ormsby tallied an ejection goal at 2:59, followed by a Grant Zider goal at 2:12 and Ormsby's second goal of the game at 0:29 to give the Bruins their first lead of the game, 4-3.
The Bruins extended their lead in the second and third quarters, as David Pietsch had two goals in the second period and Ormsby scored two of UCLA's four goals in the third period, including an ejection goal at 4:57 and a second tally at 1:20 to make the score 12-5 in UCLA's favor. LMU's only tally in the second was on a penalty shot by Rex-Kiss at 2:54,while their lone third quarter tally was also Rex-Kiss on an ejection goal at 5:46.
All of the scoring in the fourth quarter took place in the first four minutes of play. The Bruins opened with goals form Chris Pulido and Logan Powell before Rex-Kiss recorded his fourth goal of the game at 4:35 and after another Pulido goal at 4:07, Rex-Kiss concluded the scoring with his fifth goal of the game with 3:42 left to play.
UCLA returns to action on Sunday at 1 pm against UC Santa Cruz at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
