Bruins Open 2001 Indoor Track And Field Season

UCLA's 2001 collegiate indoor track and field season got underway last weekend (Sat., Jan. 20) with the Bruins competing at the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, NV and the Los Angeles Invitational at the Sports Arena.

In Reno, junior Tracy O'Hara won the women's collegiate pole vault with a mark of 13-6. O'Hara in 2000 as a sophomore won both the NCAA Outdoor and Indoor titles and set the collegiate outdoor (14-7.50) and indoor (14-6) records.

Also competing for the UCLA women in Reno were ' junior Heather Sickler, 12-0, sophomore Karen Bewley, 11-11, sophomore Bridget Pearson, 11-3 and freshman Gail Larsen, 11-3.

UCLA's three men's competitors ' senior Steve Michels, sophomore Jared Drake and freshman Yoo Kim, all vaulted 16-4.75.

At the LA Invite, UCLA had two women's runners in an 880y race ' sophomore Jessica Marr, 2:17.33 and sophomore Tiffany Burgess, 2:17.71.

This weekend, the Bruin women will compete at the Penn State Indoor Invitational. In 2000, Jeanette Bolden's Bruin women won the NCAA Indoor Championships, the first ever in school history.
