Athens, Ga. - UCLA freshman Daniela Bercek won the biggest match of her Bruin career Friday, battling back from a set down to defeat fourth-ranked MeganBradley in three sets, propelling ninth-seeded UCLA to a 4-3 victory over Miami in the NCAA Quarterfinals at the University of Georgia. With the win, UCLA (20-7) advances to Saturday's semifinals and will take on fifth-seeded Clemson ( 24-3) at 11:00 a.m. (EST). The Tigers were 4-3 winners over fourth-seeded Washington.

Although UCLA was favored against the unseeded Hurricanes, the Bruins had to rally after losing the doubles point and a pair of singles matches to fall behind 3-2 in the match. With just two matches still on court, the Bruins needed to win both to pull out the win. Bruin junior Sarah Gregg, who like Bercek had dropped the first set in her match, evened the dual at 3-3 when she posted a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Staci Stevens at the No. 4 position. That win set the stage for Bercek's clinching victory. After losing the first set 6-4, Bercek was able to claw back and win the next two sets 6-2, 6-4.

Prior to the victories from Gregg and Bercek, UCLA's Jackie Carleton and Laura Gordon each posted a pair of impressive wins. Gordon was first to finish, registering a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sara Robbins at the No. 6 position. Carleton cruised in her match at the No. 2 spot, dropping just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Melissa Applebaum.

Miami registered its two singes wins at the Nos. 3 and 5 positions. Mari Toro defeated Feriel Esseghir, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot, while Audrey Banada defeated Lauren Fisher, 6-4, 7-6.

Friday marked the second time this season that the Bruins have defeated the Hurricanes, as UCLA posted a 4-3 victory back on Mar. 17 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA's last trip to the NCAA Semifinals was back in 1996. It is the first-ever trip for head coach Stella Sampras Webster.
