LOS ANGELES - Playing on his home courts of the Los Angeles Tennis Center, UCLA's Benjamin Kohlloeffel captured the singles title at the 2005 ITA Regional Championships Sunday, earning a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 3-6 at Ohio State University.
Kohlloeffel, the top seed in the tournament, cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Arizona's Roger Matalonga in Sunday's final, which had to be moved from Pepperdine to the LATC due to poor weather in Malibu.
UCLA also had three doubles teams playing in the semifinals on Sunday. Aaron Yovan and Mathieu Dehaine defeated teammates Jeremy Drean and Chris Surapol, 9-8(5) to advance to the finals. In the other semifinal, Pepperdine's Ivor Lovrak/Pedro Rico upset top-seeded Kohlloeffel and Philipp Gruendler, 9-7. Lovrak and Rico then took the tournament title with an 8-6 decision over Dehaine/Yovan.
