On September 29, the upperclassmen of the 2004 Bruin dive team, Amanda Blong, Sara Clark, Janine Strack, and Paige Thompson visited Crescent Heights Elementary School to talk about the important of being healthy. The divers spoke with kids in grades 1-5 about the importance of being fit and eating healthy as they grow up. The foursome discussed how living healthy lives helped them achieve the successes in their lives. The children also learned about how athletics can give them the opportunity to get into college and attend one in the future.
"It was a great opportunity for UCLA athletes to use their elevated status in the community for a good cause," said junior Amanda Blong. "The kids are great and the schools have made us feel very welcome."
The divers have spoken at a similar assembly last spring and are planning on visiting another in the Spring of 2005 because there have been several schools interested in having them speak to their students.
