Sydney, Australia - Former UCLA standout Ato Boldon took home the silver medal in the 100m at the 2000 Olympic Games, finishing in a time of 9.99 seconds, just behind gold-medal winner and training partner Maurice Greene, who ran a time of 9.87. Obadele Thompson of Barbados was third in 10.04.
Boldon, from Trinidad & Tobago, improved upon his previous Olympic appearance. He won bronze in Atlanta in 1996.
"I knew this was a race Maurice would have to give away for anybody else to have a chance," Boldon said. "Maurice just destroyed us out there, to be honest."
In the semifinals earlier in the day, Boldon placed third in his semifinal heat with a time of 10.13 behind Greene (10.06) and another training partner Jon Drummond (10.10).
