UCLA HEAD COACH Sue Enquist
"I'm just thrilled. (This win) just so says so much about this team and its ability to never give up. That has been what they have represented all year and everybody got to see what softball is truly all about. Just a great lesson that the game doesn't know who is supposed to win until that last out. Keira stayed strong throughout the game and our kids just fought it out."
UCLA JUNIOR Keira Goerl
On her performance:
"You don't go into a game thinking you're going to give up a run in the first inning but it happened and we came back strong after that. Our team came through in the end."
UCLA FRESHMAN CAITLYN BENYI
On her game-winning hit:
"I was just looking to put the ball in play, especially with Natasha on base. Anything that would make her run the bases because that's what we like to see."
UCLA SENIOR Natasha Watley
On if she was surprised Texas pitched to her in the bottom of the seventh inning:
"No, I wasn't surprised because I had struck out every time that I was up previously. But when their coach walked out there I thought she was going to walk me. But I wasn't surprised. My last at bat was all about putting it in play. It was a half swing and I got it into play."
TEXAS HEAD COACH CONNIE CLARK
"I thought we had a great tournament and a great year. I am very, very proud of our team. It has been a phenomenal run and we are a fairly young team. I also liked the fact that we played a quality opponent in UCLA. We'll probably have to go through the Bruins to win a national championship. We put a gameplan together tonight and laid it on the line and just competed. It teaches a lot about life and, obviously, it wasn't pretty at the end. I am just proud of our team. They showed a lot character and a lot of class. It will serve them well down the stretch."
On if she considered walking Natasha Watley with two outs in the seventh:
"It never crossed my mind. We didn't want to put the winning run on for free and after seeing her earlier today we felt like Cat (Osterman) could go right at her."
TEXAS SOPHOMORE CAT OSTERMAN
On her performance:
"I was very happy with the way I pitched. It is tough for any team to beat me twice. After the first game I had the mindset that they will be sorry that they stepped on the field because I was going to go right at them. That was my gameplan. I was really pleased but just disappointed with the last two pitches."
On the team's success:
"I am so proud of them and it has been incredible. You couldn't ask for freshmen to step up and for sophomores to play like juniors, and that is exactly what both of these classes have done. We have gone above and beyond what people expected."
