This Week (April 26) - Art Venegas' UCLA men's track & field team will battle crosstown rival USC for Lexus Gauntlet points this Saturday in the annual UCLA-USC dual meet. This year, the meet will be held at USC's Katherine B. Loker Stadium and Cromwell Field.
The UCLA-USC dual meet has been a stpale of Southern California athletics since 1934. The Bruins have won 23 of the last 24 match-ups, including last year's 121-81 victory. The Trojans' last win came in 2001, in a close 82-81 victory. That win snapped UCLA's 22-year win streak (1978-2000, 1982 was a non-scoring meet). In the history of the meet, UCLA athletes hold 13 meet records, while USC athletes hold eight. In the overall standings, the Trojans have won 39 meets, the Bruins have won 30.
Lexus Gauntlet - This year's dual meet, worth five points, will count in the year-long Lexus Gauntlet Trophy competition between the Bruins and Trojans. The Lexus Gauntlet Trophy will be awarded to the insititution that wins the most head-to-head competitions in all sports between the schools. Currently, USC leads UCLA 50 to 30. The Bruins have claimed victories in men's water polo, women's soccer, women's cross country, men's volleyball, and men's tennis. UCLA also leads in women's water polo, which is currently in season.
