Senior Dan Ames and freshman Brandon Johnson are this week's Pac-10 Men's Field and Track Athletes of the Week (April 26) based on their performances last weekend at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational.
Ames (Lakeside/El Capitan HS) placed second overall and was the top collegian in the shot put with a mark of 65-8.25. He won the hammer throw with a personal-best and Regional qualifying toss of 207-8 (No. 8 in school history). He also placed 18th overall in the discus with a season-best and Regional qualifying mark of 190-5.
Johnson (Orange, TX/W. Orange Stark) in his Bruin debut, posted the best time in the 400m hurdles to win heat one in a Regional qualifying mark of 51.24. He also ran the leadoff on UCLA's winning 4 X 400m relay that clocked in a time of 3:11.15.
On Friday/Saturday (April 30/May 1) at UCLA's Drake Stadium, the Bruin men and women's track & field teams will host USC in the annual dual meet. On Friday, the hammer throw competition will begin at 3 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 11:30 a.m. and running events at 12:35 p.m.
