Ojai, Calif. - Bruin junior Rodrigo Grilli defeated Washington's Matt Hanlin, 6-4, 6-3 Saturday to advance to the finals of the main draw at the Pac-10 Tennis Championships in Ojai, Calif.
Grilli, who is ranked No. 48 in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Singles Rankings, will face Alex Vlaski of Washington in Sunday's final. Vlaski advanced with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Bruin sophomore Marcin Matkowski in the other semifinal.
In the semifinals of the Pac-10 Invitational draw, UCLA's Alberto Francis defeated teammate Erfan Djahangiri, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to Sunday's final. Francis will take on USC's Ruben Torres, a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 winner over Bruin junior Lassi Ketola.
In doubles action, top-seeded Matkowski/Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA advanced to the finals with a 9-8(5) decision over Cal's Fruttero/Kowalczyk. They will take on Stanford's Lipsky/Martin on Sunday. Lipsky and Martin defeated UCLA's Tobias Clemens/Ketola, 9-8 in the other semifinal.
