LOS ANGELES - UCLA, the top seed in NCAA Regional 2, posted a five-inning run-rule victory over eighth-seeded Mississippi Valley State on Thursday afternoon at Easton Stadium. The Bruins (40-9) advance in the winners bracket to play fourth-seeded Louisville at 2:30 pm on Friday, while the Devilettes (31-16) will play an elimination game on Friday morning at 9 am.

Freshman right fielder Lisa Dodd recorded UCLA's first hit of the game, a double, with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Bruin offense was relatively quiet through the remainder of the lineup through the first three innings of the game. To start the fourth inning, Elizabeth Imbert came in to pitch for MVSU, and the Bruins racked up seven runs on six hits in the frame and were aided by four Mississippi Valley State errors.

Goerl then retired the Devilettes in order in the top of the fifth inning, striking out the first and last batter of the half-inning to finish with eight strikeouts on the day. The only blemish on an otherwise perfect game was a hit batter in the second inning.

Stephanie Ramos opened the bottom of the fifth inning with a lead-off shot over the right field fence to record UCLA's eighth run of the game, invoking the mercy rule to end the game with an 8-0 UCLA win after five innings.

UCLA advances in the winners bracket of NCAA Regional 2 to face fourth-seeded Louisville at 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon at Easton Stadium.
