Men's Golf Signs Two So Cal Players

Nov. 30, 2000

The UCLA men's golf program signed two Southern California players during the early signing period which ended Nov. 15.

High school seniors Breene Murphy and John Poucher signed National Letters-of-Intent for the UCLA men's golf program coached by Brad Sherfy.

An outstanding student, Murphy may enter UCLA with enough units to enroll as a sophomore academically. He has a 4.0 (weighted) grade point average from Los Alamitos High School. On the golf course, he placed first in the Compac Jr. Championships in July at Trophy Lake in Port Orchard, WA before losing in a playoff. He also tied for second place at the Nabisco Mission Hills tournament, sponsored by the American Junior Golf Assn.

Poucher, who attends Santa Barbara San Marcos High, earned AJGA Honorable Mention All-America honors in October. He won the AJGA-sponsored Dockers Classic at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc in July. He boasts a national ranking of 58th among high school players.
