Los Angeles, CA - The Baylor women's basketball team outscored UCLA 50-32 in the second half to rally to an 89-77 decision over the host Bruins tonight in Pauley Pavilion. Sophomore post Steffanie Blackmon paced the Lady Bears, now 9-1 on the year, with 22 points (14 in the second half) and 13 (seven in the second half) rebounds.
The Bruins led the entire first half and enjoyed a 45-39 advantage at the half thanks to 12 points from Michelle Greco and 10 by Nikki Blue. After UCLA upped its lead to 52-41 at the 17:36 mark, Baylor battled back and managed to take the lead for the first time in the game, at 70-67, with 10:16 to play on a Stasha Richards three-point shot. The Bruins never regained the lead, and Baylor pulled away for the win. Blackmon led six Baylor players in double figures.
UCLA, now 4-4 on the year, was led by Blue who scored a career-best 26 points and Greco who finished with 16. Freshman forward Julia Pitts was forced to leave the game with a left knee injury in the first half and did not return to the lineup. She will undergo further testing by the UCLA medical staff on Friday.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday afternoon against Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
