No. 19 UCLA Women's Soccer Faces No. 11 Nebraska and No. 25 Baylor

UCLA vs. Nebraska - One of the most anticipated match-ups of the 1998 season, UCLA (4-1-0) will go head-to-head with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday, September 18 at 8 pm on Spaulding Field. No. 11 Nebraska (2-1-0) has already notched two big wins this season, defeating then-ranked No. 8 Clemson 4-1 and No. 20 Stanford 3-0. Leading the Husker offense this season is senior forward Kim Engesser with 10 points. The Bruins lead the series record vs. Nebraska 1-0, with a 1-0 overtime win in 1995. USC will face Baylor at 6 pm on Friday in the first game of the USC Fila Challenge being held at UCLA.

UCLA vs. Baylor - The Bruins go crosstown on Sunday, September 20 at 11 am to play Baylor at the USC Fila Challenge at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. No. 25 Baylor (5-0-0) is led by junior forward Courtney Saunders (7g, 2a, 16 points). In the Bears' five games this season, they have outscored (19-4) and outshot (112-45) their opponents. This will be the first meeting between UCLA and Baylor.

Next Week - The Bruins play two home games next week before embarking on a five game road trip. UCLA will face Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, September 23 at 7 pm at El Camino College. UCLA has the Titans' number, leading the series record 6-0. Up next for UCLA will be the San Diego Toreros in a game to be played on Sunday, September 27 at 2 pm at El Camino College. UCLA leads the series record 3-1-1.

Bruins Win USF diadora Classic - UCLA clinched the inaugural USF diadora Classic title this weekend after defeating Loyola College of Baltimore 5-0 and UNC- Charlotte 1-0. The Bruins outshot Loyola 23-2 and saw outstanding performances from freshmen Staci Duncan and Breana Boling. Duncan earned tournament MVP honors after scoring two goals and two assists in the tournament, including the game-winner against UNCC. Boling netted two goals, one assist and the game- winner in the 5-0 win over Loyola. Also scoring for UCLA were Beth Thompson and Sommer Hammoud.

Duncan Named Pac-10 Player of the Week - For her exceptional play this weekend at the USF diadora Classic, freshman forward Staci Duncan was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week. She becomes the third Bruin in school history to receive this honor (Traci Arkenberg twice, Sherice Bartling). With her two goals and two assists this weekend, Duncan is UCLA's leading scorer (3g, 3a, 9 points). Duncan is currently the co-leader in the Pac-10 in assists and is ranked fourth in points scored and tied for fourth in goals.

Iron Defense - UCLA's defense, led by junior Skylar Little, is once again one of the team's strongest areas. In five games the Bruin defense has given up only one goal. At the USF diadora Classic, UCLA allowed Loyola College only two shots and limited UNCC to just seven. On the season, the Bruins have posted four shutouts and have limited their opponents to only 28 shots on goal in five games.

Pac-10 Leaders - Defending Pac-10 Champions UCLA is leading the way again this season, posting the best record in the conference. Lindsay Culp leads all Pac-10 goalkeepers with a GAA of 0.22, and the Bruins lead in team goalkeeping (0.20). Breana Boling is currently tied for 11th in points scored with five, while Venus James is tied for 15th with four.
