The majority of the UCLA men's track and field team will rest up this weekend as they prepare for the annual dual meet battle with crosstown rival USC, but the throwers and pole vaulters will be in action in La Jolla, CA at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Friday, April 21 to Saturday, April 22.
The UCSD meet has always brought in many of the finest discus throwers in the nation and world because of its locale and incredible winds. Three Bruins will look to take advantage of the incredible wind and post some top marks in the discus on Saturday - sophomore John Caulfield (185-9), junior Jason Rider (179-0) and sophomore Greg Garza (178-11). All three have qualified for the regional meet, and Caulfield currently leads the team as the 14th-best discus thrower in the nation.
Freshman hammer record holder Boldizsar Kocsor (202-5) will compete in the hammer competition on Friday, and will be awarded a "Star of the Month" award on Saturday after the 4x100m by the San Diego Hall of Champions.
