Jorgensborg served, then set Colby Lyman for her fifth kill of the game, giving UCLA game point. Following a UL kill and subsequent service error, the Bruins won the opening game by a score of 30-24.

Game two started much the same as game one, with the Bruins sprinting out to a 9-2 lead, then extending it to 15-5 before a TV timeout. UCLA was able to keep its lead around 10 points for the remainder of the game, as the Bruins hit .472 (22 kills, 5 errors, 36 attacks) for game two while holding the Cardinals to a .033 attack percentage in the game. From that point, UCLA held a slim lead until a ball handling error by UCLA gave UL their first lead at 20-19. The Bruins re-took the lead at 22-21 on Becky Green's first career kill. A bad Cardinals set that landed out of bounds on UCLA's side of the net gave the Bruins a 23-21 lead and forced UL into its final timeout of the game.

UCLA came back from the timeout with a block by Nancy Barba and Brynn Murphy that extended the Bruin lead to three points at 24-21. UL came back to tie the game at 29-all, and the teams traded points again to tie at 30-30. "I think we got a lot done tonight," said head coach Andy Banachowski. "Our freshmen are very enthusiastic about the game and we were able to get them some experience tonight. Our junior class worked very hard in the off-season and as a result, we're better as a team. It was great to get a win against a big-hitting team tonight."
