Bruins Tied for First before Play Is Suspended

The No.2 ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for first place at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, AZ before electrical storms forced the suspension of play Friday.

The Bruins were even par through three holes, tied with Arizona State and one shot ahead of USC, Washington and Stanford. ASU was playing holes six through nine. The Bruins were playing holes three through six with USC and Washington.

UCLA All-American Charlotte Mayorkas was one-under par through three holes before the suspension. She had birdied the par 4 third hole after carding pars on her first two holes. Seniors Krystal Shearer and Gina Umeck were even par through three holes, sophomore Susie Mathews was two-over par at the third and freshman Hannah Jun was one-over.

Mayorkas was in a group of four players tied for second place at one-under par. They trailed the co-leaders by one shot.

Play will resume Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and second round action will start immediately following the completion of round one.

The tournament is scheduled to be completed on Sunday.
