Bruin Great Meb Keflezighi Sets USA 8 km Championship Record

2000 Olympian and U.S. 10,000m record holder Meb Kefleizighi won the USA 8 km in a new Championships record time of 22 minutes, 16 seconds Saturday in New York City's Central Park.

The 2002 USA Outdoor 10,000m champ, Keflezighi broke the previous record set by Tim Broe in the inaugural USA 8 km Championship in 2002, by 10 seconds. He earned a $1,000 bonus for breaking the record, in addition to his $5,000 first place prize and $500 for being the first man to reach the 5 km split (14:04).

Anthony Famiglietti finished second (22:26), and Bolota Asmerom (22:29) finished in third place. Ryan Kirkpatrick (22:32) and Chad Johnson (22:33) rounded out the top five finishers.
