LOS ANGELES - Top-seeded Tobias Clemens and third-seeded Chris Lam of UCLA both posted victories Friday to move into the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiates at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.
Clemens, the defending champion of the event, defeated Kentucky's Tigran Martirosyan, 6-4, 6-2. He will take another Kentucky player, Nataniel Emge, in Saturday's semifinals.
In the bottom half of the draw, Lam defeated Kentucky's Evan Austin, 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. He next faces UCSB's Alex Anselme, who defeated UCLA's Kris Kwinta, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.
In doubles action, the Bruins have two teams in the semifinals. Chris Surapol and Aaron Yovan upset teammates Alberto Francis/Kwinta, 8-4 in the quarterfinals. They will take on Kentucky's Austin/Martirosyan on Saturday. In the bottom half of the draw, Clemens and Lam defeated UC Riverside's Norman Tam/Jeremy Owens, 8-5 in the quarterfinals. Next up for them will be second-seeded Parker Collins/Daniel Langre of USC.
