Junior Kim Vandenberg placed third in the 200 Butterfly at the NCAA Championships as the UCLA Bruins placed 18th (52 pts.) on the final day of competition. Vandenberg's finish gave her a total of four All-American honors for this meet.
In the preliminary heats of the 200 Fly, Vandenberg posted the second-fastest time on the day (1:56.01) and dropped her time in the final, swimming into third place in a time of 1:55.08. Vandenberg also earned All-American honors in the 100 Fly, 200 Medley and 400 Medley Relays.
In the 200 Backstroke, sophomore Katie Arnold placed 25th in a time of 1:59.05, while senior Kim Scarborough finished 43rd (2:01.60). In the 200 Breaststroke, freshman Nicolette Teo placed 29th (2:17.13), junior Shellene Catalano placed 36th (2:18.32) and freshman Chiemi Yamamoto finished 42nd (2:18.75). Sophomore Katie Nelson placed 26th in the 1650 Freestyle in a time of 16:32.47.
In all, the Bruins had two individual All-Americans with Vandenberg earning two accolades, and Arnold winning one (100 Backstroke). The 200 Medley Relay team of Arnold, Vandenberg and juniors Eileen Seissen and Amy Thurman also earned All-American honors (14th), along with the 400 Medley Relay team of Arnold, Vandenberg, Teo and Nelson (13th).
