Junior right-hander Casey Janssen was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 5-11th. The honor is the first of Janssen's career and the second for a Bruin this season (Mike Kunes - March 4th).
The Fountain Valley native struck out a season high 11 batters in seven innings of action in UCLA's 5-4 win over Washington on Friday night. He allowed only one walk and five hits in his appearance to earn his fifth win of 2003.
Janssen currently leads the Bruins with 67 strikeouts on the season, which ranks fourth in the conference. Friday night marked his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season after fanning ten batters in his season debut at Cal State Northridge on February 2nd.
Stanford's Johnny Ash was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week after hitting .545 in the Cardinal's three game sweep at California. Janssen and Ash will meet this weekend when the Bruins and Cardinal face-off in a three-game series at Sunken Diamond.
