CORVALLIS, ORE. - UCLA's women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory on Thursday night at Gill Coliseum to sweep the season series with Oregon State. Game scores were 30-21, 30-24, 30-25. With the victory, UCLA improves to 12-8 (5-6 Pac-10), while the Beavers fall to 8-10 (4-8 Pac-10). Three Bruins finished with double-figure kills in the match, led by freshman outside hitter Kaitlin Sather.
UCLA scored the first four points of game one and never looked back. Senior Nancy Barba had eight kills on 11 attacks with two errors for a .545 individual attack percentage and two blocks in the opening game. As a team, the Bruins hit .302 in game one.
Game two once again saw the Bruins take an early lead. Oregon State was able to tie the game at 6-6 before UCLA connected on five straight points to extend to an 11-6 lead and the Bruins would not look back. Sather had eight of her 17 kills in game two, hitting .727 on an error-free 11 attacks in game two.
The final game was the closest of the match, with UCLA not taking the lead for good until 20-19. Nana Meriwether led the Bruins with six kills in the game, hitting .400 on 10 attacks with two errors. Freshman defensive specialist had half of her four aces in game three, while Sather added five kills in game three.
Both of UCLA's middle blockers had impressive numbers for the match with Meriwether turning in a .435 attack percentage with 14 kills and four errors on 23 total attacks. Barba had a similar attack percentage, turning in a .455 mark with 13 kills on 22 attacks with three errors, adding four block assists. Sather once again led the Bruins with 17 kills, hitting a match-high .457 with just one error on 35 total attacks.
The Bruins return to action on Friday night in Eugene, Ore., for a 7 pm match against Oregon.
