Bruins Visit Santa Barbara for Gaucho Invitational, Feb. 27-28: Three-time defending national champion UCLA (4-3 overall, 1-1 MPSF) will be among the 16 participants in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament, Feb. 27-28. Top seeds in the tournament include California (4-1, 0-0), USC (5-0, 0-0), Stanford (5-1, 1-1) and the host Gauchos (2-3, 0-0).
Weekend Recap: The Bruins finished fourth at the UC San Diego Tournament, posting wins over UC San Diego (12-7), UC Davis (10-5) and Hawai'i (7-4). While UCLA dominated the first two days of the competition, outscoring opponents 29- 16, the last day of the tournament proved to be a challenge for the Bruins. The rival USC Trojans, who took home first place honors in the tournament, beat UCLA 3-5 in their first ever victory over the Bruins. In the final match for third place tournament honors, Stanford defeated UCLA 6-4. Freshman Elaine Zivich led the Bruins, notching eight goals over the weekend and scoring in all but one game. Freshman Jenny Lamb also scored in four of the five games, notching a total of five goals. Freshman Erin Hayes, junior Serela Kay and sophomore Michelle Lee each tallied four goals. Sophomore Kristin Guerin and seniors Amanda Gall and Mandy McAloon each scored two goals. Juniors Carly Herrera and Jessica Stewart, freshman Eleanor Murphy and senior Katie Tenenbaum each notched a goal. In all, twelve Bruins scored, five with more than three points.
Bruins at home March 5-16: Following the UC Santa Barbara Tournament, UCLA will host four games, including two MPSF conference matches, beginning on Friday, March 5. The Bruins will host Hawai'i on Friday at 3 pm and will meet USC for a conference match at noon on Saturday, March 6. On Sunday, March 7, the Bruins play Hawai'i in a conference match at 12 noon. The following week, the Bruins host the University of Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 16 at 3 pm. All home matches will be played at the Men's Gym Pool.
Celebrating Women's Athletics: The UCLA Athletic Department will celebrate the Silver Anniversary of UCLA Women's Intercollegiate Athletics on May 1, 1999. "A Celebration of Champions" dinner will honor the accomplishments of the UCLA Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Program and its athletes over the past 25 years.
Bruins Host MPSF Tournament: The UCLA Women's Water Polo Team will host the MPSF Tournament this year. The event will be held at the Sunset Recreation Center, from April 9-11.
