Matkowski Sweeps Singles, Doubles Championships At ITA Regionals

Malibu, Calif. - Unseeded Marcin Matkowski of UCLA defeated No. 4 seed Stefan Suter of Pepperdine by scores of 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday afternoon to claim the singles title in the Omni Hotels ITA RegionVIII - South Championships at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.

As a result of the victory, Matkowski earned an automatic berth to the Omni Hotels ITA National Indoor Championships scheduled for November 8-11 at the Brookhaven Tennis Club outside of Dallas.

Matkowski defeated four seeded players on route to the championship, defeating No. 8 Steven Capriati of Arizona in the third round, top seed Al Garland of Pepperdine in the quarterfinals, teammate and No. 6 seed Tobias Clemens in the semifinals and Suter this afternoon.

In the consolation singles title match, UCLA's Lassi Ketola defeated Ruben Torres of USC by scores of 6-1, 6-3.

Top seeded Matkowski and teammate Jean-Julien Rojer defeated the No. 2 seeded Pepperdine tandem of Sebastien Graeff and Suter in the doubles final by an 8-5 count.
