Bruins Coming Off Sweep in Arizona . . .
UCLA took care of business in its first out of state road trip of the year in Arizona last week, downing both Arizona and Arizona State. The Bruins started the trip with a 7-0 victory over the Wildcats in Tucson on Friday. UCLA was even more impressive in their 7-0 win over No. 17 ASU the following day, winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Senior Laura Gordon played her first match at No. 1 singles, downing 65th-ranked Sabrina Capannolo, 7-6(0), 6-1.

UCLA in the Fila/ITA Rankings . . .
UCLA dropped a spot to No. 12 in the latest Fila/ITA Team Rankings released on Tuesday. UCLA currently has five singles players and one doubles teams listed in the individual rankings that were released on Feb. 22. Leading the way in singles is No. 33 Laura Gordon. She is followed by No. 68 Alex McGoodwin, No. 76 Riza Zalameda, No. 79 Tracy Lin and No. 100 Ashley Joelson. Gordon and Zalameda check in at No. 17 in doubles. Bruins Open up Pac-10 Play Next Week . . .
Although the Bruins have already faced four teams that are members of the Pac-10 Conference, UCLA's first official conference match is not until next week's meeting with Washington and Washington State. Traditionally, only the second match against a Pac-10 opponent counts in the year end standings. However, since UCLA only faces Washington, Washington State and Oregon once a year, every meeting against those teams counts in the standings. Other Pac-10 matches for UCLA in 2006 are: ASU (Mar. 31), Arizona (Apr. 1), Stanford (Apr. 7), Cal (Apr. 8), Oregon (Apr. 14) and USC (Apr. 22).

Tennis Doubleheader on March 11 . . .
Saturday, March 11 looks to be an action packed day at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, as both the UCLA men and women will be hosting some stiff competition. The day starts with the No. 12 UCLA women squaring off against No. 38 Washington at Noon. Fans that stick around will get to see a matchup of the last two NCAA Champions, as No. 8 UCLA hosts No. 9 Baylor in a men's showdown. As always, admission to regular season tennis matches is free.

Head Coach Stella Sampras Webster . . .
Stella Sampras Webster is in her 10th season as the head coach of the UCLA women's tennis team. She owns a career record of 157-85 (.649). In her first nine seasons at UCLA, Sampras Webster guided the Bruins to eight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including five top-5 showings (1997, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004).
