Senior guard Michelle Greco (LaCrescenta, CA/Crescenta Valley HS) of the UCLA Women's Basketball Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 6-12.
Greco led UCLA to its sixth-straight win with 28 points in a 72-64 win over USC in Pauley Pavilion. She hit 8 out of 16 shots from the field and all 12 free throws she attempted while playing all 40 minutes. She also led the Bruins in rebounds with seven, in assists (tied) with three, in blocked shots with one and added two steals. The 28 points gave Greco her 30th career 20-point game.
After USC cut the lead to 65-64 with 1:41 to play, Greco gave UCLA some breathing room on the Bruins' next possession. With three Trojan defenders guarding her, Greco drove from the left side of the basket for a layup and was fouled on the play. She made the subsequent free throw to increase the lead to 68-64. After a USC miss, the Bruins gave the ball to Greco, and she was fouled and hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds to play, making the score 70-64. She finished out the scoring by making a pair of free throws with six seconds to play. Greco scored UCLA's last nine points of the game.
Greco continues to lead UCLA and the Pac-10 in scoring with a 19.8 points per game average. She averages 21 points a game in conference play.
This is Greco's third UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the fifth of her career.
