The third-ranked UCLA women's golf team won its first tournament of the season and three of its players captured the first three spots at the annual Kent Youel Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course on Oahu.
The Bruins have won this event three times in six years, but they have never won as convincingly. The Bruins' three-round total of 859 was five-under par and beat second-place Arizona State by 19 shots. Oklahoma finished third at 893, followed by Oregon at 895 and UC Irvine at 897.
UCLA freshman Amie Cochran captured low medalist honors, firing a 54- hole total of 212 (-4) with a final round score of even par 72. Junior Susie Mathews placed second at 213 (-3) and senior Charlotte Mayorkas captured third place at 214 (-2). Sophomore Hannah Jun tied for ninth at 220 (+4) and senior Melissa Martin tied for 40th at 231 (+15). Freshmen Vanessa Brockett (226, +10) and Brianna Loyear (227, +11), playing as individuals, tied for 25th and 31st, respectively.
