This Saturday, November 15, the Bruins will compete at the NCAA West Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Portland, and held at Blue Lake Park in Portland, OR. The men's 10K race will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the women's 6K at 12:15 PM.
The Bruins will compete with a six-man team. Representing the Bruins are true freshman Austin Ramos, redshirt freshman Chad Galbreath, sophomore Mohammed Qazi and juniors Ben Aragon, Erik Emilsson and Jon Rankin. At the Pac-10 Championships, Ramos was the No. 1 UCLA runner, placing 22nd in 25:43.4.
"Though we were extremely disappointed with the effort of the team at the Pac-10 Championships, I've been pleased with the way that the guys have turned around their focus and enthusiasm in practice," said Peterson. "We are extremely optimistic going into the Regional Championships and have a high expectation for improving from our Pac-10 performance."
"It is worth nothing that, on the men's side, the Western Regional is as deep as ever, team-wise," said Peterson. "There appear to be eight teams among the nation's Top-40, and as many as five, possibly six, appear to have a strong chance to qualify for nationals. Given this depth, we are looking for one or more of our athletes to qualify individually and represent our program at the NCAA Championships."
