The UCLA women's golf team is tied for 24th after the first round at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Washington at Washington National Golf Course.
The Bruins posted a score of 314, 26-over par, their worst 18-hole team score of the season. Arizona leads the field at 285, three-under par, followed by Duke and defending NCAA champion Georgia at 294.
Individually, sophomore Melissa Martin is tied for 19th place at one-over par 73. Freshman Yvonne Choe is tied for 94th at 79. Freshman Charlotte Mayorkas, senior Alicia Um and sophomore Gina Umeck each posted nine-over par scores of 81 and are tied at 112th place.
Duke's Virada Nirapathpongporn fired a score of 68, four-under par, and leads the field by one shot. Georgia's Summer Sirmons is second at three-under par 69. Seven players, including top-ranked Lorena Ochoa of Arizona, are tied for third place at two-under par 70.
