Bruins Take 36-hole Lead at NCAA Championships

The second ranked UCLA men's golf team took the 36-hole lead at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, hosted by Oklahoma State at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, OK.

The Bruins posted a seven-over par score of 295 Wednesday, and boast a two-round total of 598, one stroke in front of Oklahoma State and three ahead of Clemson. Florida and Auburn are tied for fourth at 602, and Wake Forest is sixth at 610. The Bruins were the only team in the field to break 300 in the second round.

Leading the charge for the Bruins is Pac-10 champion John Merrick, who fired an even par round of 72, and is tied for fourth place at three-over par 147. Roy Moon posted a one-over par 73 and is tied for 15th place at 148, and Travis Johnson is tied for 12th place at 148 after carding his second straight round of 74. Steve Conway improved his first round score by two shots with a 76 in the second round and is tied for 45th place at 154. Sophomore John Poucher also improved his from his first round score by posting a 78.

Lee Williams of Auburn remained in the lead after posting an even par round of 72 for a 36-hole total of 141, three-under par. Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan is second at even par 144 after carding a one-under par 71. In third place at one-over par 145 is Jason Moon of North Carolina State.

Third round action continues Thursday. UCLA will begin its tee times at 1:03 p.m. CDT with Oklahoma State and Clemson.
