LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team improved its record to 18-2 overall and 4-0 in Pac-10 play, defeating Oregon, 6-1 at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center Friday. With the loss, the Ducks fall to 8-10 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
UCLA won the doubles point and then claimed five of six singles matches. Fifth-ranked Tobias Clemens registered a straight-set victory over Manuel Kost at the No. 1 position, and was joined by Lassi Ketola and Alberto Francis, who also won in straight sets.
The three remaining singles matches were all decided by 10-point tiebreakers instead of a third set. At court No. 3, Chris Lam downed Sven Swinnen, 3-6, 6-3, (10-4). Back on court No. 4, Erfan Djahangiri outlasted Thomas Bieri, 5-7, 7-6(4), (10-8).
Oregon picked up its only victory on the afternoon at court No. 2, where Oded Teig outlasted Bruin senior Rodrigo Grilli, 7-5, 2-6, (10-5)
UCLA returns to action tomorrow to host No. 15 Washington at the LATC beginning at 1:00 p.m.
